Traditionally, businesses have employed dual networks, one for their telephone system & the other for their computer network.
IP telephony uses a single network to transport both voice and data. Each telephone handset has its own IP address, in the same way as each networked PC has its own address.
Systems from Avaya, Mitel, Panasonic and Siemens are available with the capability of offering pure IP connectivity or a combination of traditional telephony & IP telephony.
